Overview:
The Rosa damascena, known in Iran as "Gol-Mohammadi", was originally discovered in Iran. It later spread to other countries via Damascus, which is why it is commonly referred to in English as the Damask rose.
Iran remains a leading exporter of bulk dried rose buds of Rosa damascena. Among the prominent cities associated with the origin and cultivation of this flower are Shiraz and Kashan. In fact, rose buds from Darab in Shiraz are particularly sought after and admired by rose enthusiasts.
Today, this plant is extensively cultivated in Iran—especially in Fars Province—primarily for the production of rose water and essential oils.
Damask roses thrive in high-altitude and dry regions, which is why Iran's cold, dry climate provides ideal conditions for their growth. These environmental factors naturally protect the plants from pests, allowing them to be grown organically and without the use of pesticides. As a result, Iranian dried Damask roses are renowned for their exceptional quality.
